"Innerwellness Consultant"
Alvin Curley is a Certified Innerwellness Consultant whose purpose in life is to "Empower People to Personal Freedom" through opening hearts. He has completed his BSc., B.Ed., M.ED., and is a Certified Reality Therapist.
He is certified in Choice Theory/Reality Therapy (CRT) and has completed both certification in NLP as well as completing the Master's level (MNLP). He is a Certified Peer Trainer.
After 34 years in the Educational System serving as a principal, teacher, and guidance counsellor, Alvin upon retiring, opened his own private practice AR Curley Counselling & Consulting and later developed his Inner Wellness Coaching business.
Besides offering Innerwealth Programs (Self, Life Purpose and Real Spirit) he offers seminars on such topics as major life changes, discipline, stress reduction, communication, conflict resolution, anger management, confidence building and relaxation techniques.
He does individual and couple counselling and deals with such topics as phobias, anxiety and fears, depression, suicide prevention, stress, marriage/family crisis, self-esteem, learning strategies, parenting, discipline, emotional extremes, abuse, grief, motivation and addictions.
Alvin teaches a four level NLP program leading to certification. His recently written book Free to be Me! from Depression Valley to Plain Happiness has proven successful. Chris Walker, international trainer says in part "Al Curley has just completed an amazing book…"
Just for the Health of It
My personal journey is one of diverse experiences - some great, some not. Part of the not so great journey was the experience I had of going through a depression. Although depression was painful I learned a lot of positive things from it and that I had power within me to overcome depression. I also learned that when anyone goes through any kind of a painful emotional experience it is nature's way of telling you there is something in your life happening that is not healthy. It takes pain to draw our attention to it and find out what is going on. So pain is a gift! It is there - just for the health of it!.
Some of the positives I have learned include:
- 1. Each individual has much power within them. But they were not given a manual as to how to reach that power. Emotional pain is the vehicle which motivates us to learn the tools to tap into our power. That is the gift of the pain.
- 2. Many positives came out of my pain. E.g. I had written a book dealing with my experience and how to use the tools to help ourselves. I learned that my mission in life is to help people "Empower themselves to personal freedom."
- 3. I developed an interest in holistic health and that preventative health is so important. Too, it is important to treat the cause of an illness, not just the symptoms. To use an analogy, imagine you are driving a long in your car and the oil light comes on. You don't cure the situation by breaking the bulb or cutting the wire so you do not see the light (the symptom). Rather, you fill the car with oil (the cause.)
- 4. An example of promoting health is the project my friend Ches Boutilier and I, along with Red High Heels Productions (RHHP) are doing, a Wellness Expo, the first of its kind to be held in Prince Edward Island. It is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Silver Fox Yacht and Curling Club. The owners of RHHP, Rachel Campbell and Catherine Dickson are also highly motivated in promoting health. This Expo is designed to allow people of interest in health to purchase a Booth for the Expo which will enable them to promote their product. There will be an opportunity all day for people to come in and visit the booths and to hear wellness presentations.
